Cingular Wireless has been chosen to help a Honeywell business unit implement a wireless data solution designed to boost productivity and enhance customer service. Implemented by Honeywell's Automation & Control Solutions (ACS) Service building systems service business, the solution means fewer administrative steps, quicker access to vital customer information, enhanced field service communications, and faster customer response time overall.
Under its Field Automation Service Technology (FAST) initiative, Honeywell ACS Service is arming 1,400 building services technicians with handheld communications units for wireless communications. The solution was developed with the assistance of Cingular's Professional Services Group and is enabled on Cingular's nationwide wireless packet data Mobitex network. FAST also incorporates software and support from FieldCentrix and a handheld computer from Itronix.
Honeywell ACS Service piloted several wireless solutions before selecting Cingular as its exclusive RF mobile field solutions provider for the initiative in the United States. Honeywell chose Cingular because of its simplicity, ease of use and immediacy of communications.
"The FAST initiative is part of Honeywell's ongoing efforts to apply digitization to our processes to boost employee productivity and improve customer service quality," said Paul Danielson, Honeywell ACS Process and Technology Manager.
"Honeywell technicians get critical information in a timely manner, thus reducing the time it takes to get to a customer and solve that customer's problem," said Stephen Krom, Vice President of Marketing, Data and Internet Services for Cingular Wireless. "The Cingular solution allows Honeywell to experience the flexibility and increased productivity that wireless communications provides."
Honeywell ACS Service expects to complete deployment of the FAST solution by early 2002. Honeywell ACS also recently added Web-based applications that further enhance service quality by allowing its building systems service customers to access their service information online.
