For his entire career, Mike Adkinson has been a communicator and a connector. Even during three tours of duty in Vietnam, where he commanded a gunship unit, served as a platoon leader, and logged over 2,400 combat flying hours. Enlisting as a Private, he would eventually become a commissioned officer, working directly with accomplished military leaders such as Colin Powell and Gary E. Luck. Adkinson was the youngest person in the U.S. Army since World War II to make the rank of Lt. Colonel. His experience motivating and educating troops in combat has benefitted him as a publisher and as an entrepreneur. After retiring from the Army, Adkinson would become publisher of Jaye Communications, the first company to develop technology publications and directories focused on the Southeastern computer industry. He held this position for nine years. In 1998, Adkinson founded his own company, TechLINKS. For 11 years, TechLINKS published a magazine serving the Atlanta technology community, provided a website for company announcements, and hosted popular business-to-business events. In 2009, Adkinson launched the new TechLINKS, an online community focused on making useful information available to IT buyers. Adkinson is educated at Columbia University, the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College and Auburn University. He lives in Atlanta and enjoys travel throughout the southeast and takes pride in being conversant about the best places to eat. |
