RenovoData Corporation, a leader in agentless online backup and disaster recovery solutions, announced today that their President and CEO, Lynn Do is one of fifteen finalists who will be competing in Count Me In’s “Make Mine a Million $ Business” contest this week in Atlanta. For a chance to win funding and other support to grow their small businesses into million-dollar enterprises, eight winners out of fifteen will be selected from audience members and judges.
To be showcased in Atlanta on June 1st-3rd at the annual NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) conference, Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence is a company that provides online micro loans ranging from $500 to $10,000, and tools and resources to assist women entrepreneurs in growing their small businesses. Founded by Nell Merlino, the innovative force behind 1993’s Take Our Daughters to Work Day, Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence is partnered with OPEN, an American Express small-business unit, to provide working capital, mentoring, and marketing opportunities for women-owned businesses through their “Make Mine a Million $ Business” campaign. The campaigns goal, according to Count Me In’s Website, www.count-me-in.org, is to create a community of one million women-owned businesses with $1 million or more in annual revenue by 2010.
Competing against inspiring business-owners from all around the nation, each contestant will be participating for a chance to become one of the eight to receive assistance to help grow their business. Specifically, winners will receive $50,000 in funding from OPEN, equipment from Cisco worth $20,000, a year of mentoring, and professional marketing assistance. “The format is kind of like The Apprentice meets American Idol,” said RenovoData’s President Lynn Do, “meaning that all finalists get onstage in front of judges and audience members of NAWBO to pitch their businesses for a chance to become one of the eight winners.” Lynn will be one of the only candidates out of the fifteen contestants to represent the high-tech industry this weekend.
The NAWBO, host to this years contest, is the driving voice behind the United States’ 10.6 million women-owned businesses. Since its beginning in 1975, NAWBO has helped women entrepreneurs evolve their businesses through the sharing of valuable resources and by providing a platform to help shape economic and public policy.
Since the campaigns launch in 2006, “Make Mine a $Million Business” has received a tremendous response from women and supporting corporate sponsors across the country. Count Me In’s Nell Merlino credits this support to the leadership created by OPEN to bring in new corporate sponsors. In fact, other sponsors alongside American Express include FedEx Inc., QVC Inc., Intuit Inc., American International Group Inc., (AIG,) and Cisco Systems Inc. Each of these sponsors will participate in the movement by providing business services, technological assistance, marketing, mentoring, and funding.
With the important backing of corporate leaders and political visionaries like Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Make Mine a Million $ Business is picking up steam at an increasing rate and its founders are very excited about the rapid response from women entrepreneurs all across the country.
